Two-factor Authentication in ISPmanager

This article will help you to know how to enable two-factor authentication in ISPmanager control panel.

To log in to the control panel, a user enters only his username and password. For better protection of your account, enable the two-factor authentication. When this option is activated, a user needs to enter: 

  1. The login and password. 
  2.  A one-time digit password.

A one-time password generated through Google Authenticator.

How to Enable Two-factor Authentication for Users

To enable two-factor authentication for users, follow the steps:

  1. Download and install Google Authenticator in the Play Market or App Store. The application can be installed on Android 2.1. and later, and the latest version of iPhone and iPad. The application does not require an active Internet connection or cellular connection.

  2. In he ISPmanager control panel, navigate to Settings > User settings.
  3. Click Enable two-factor authentication

  4. In the opened window, a new form with a QR-code, the Account name and Key appears.

  5. Run Google Authenticator on your mobile device.
  6. Click Start.
  7. Click Add a code.

  8. Select one of the following options:
    • Scan a QR code
    • Enter a setup key

  9. In case you select Scan a QR code, scan the QR code that appears. You see a six-digit code.

  10. If the application cannot read the code:
    • Click Enter a setup key.
    • Enter the Account name and the Key specified in the control panel. You see a six-digit code.
  11. Enter the password in the One-time password field in the control panel.
  12. Click Activate.

  13. ISPmanager prompts you to confirm passwords in the User settings field.
  14. Click Save.

    IMPORTANT: Make sure that your server time and mobile device (with Google Authenticator installed) time are synchronized.

  15. If you have issues with 2-step authentication, or QR-code cannot be used, complete the following steps:
    • Check your server time and date.
    • Check Google Authenticator settings:
      • Go to Settings > Correct time for QR-codesSynchronize. A confirmation message appears. Now you can use temporary codes to set up 2-step authentication. Synchronization influences only an internal name of Google Authenticator and is not shown in device data and time settings.
      • If you cannot find Settings in Google Authenticator, check time synchronization in your mobile device.

How to Disable Two-factor Authentication

To disable two-factor authentication in the ISPmanager control panel, follow the steps:

  1. Go to Settings > User settings.
  2. Click Disable two-factor authentication.
  3. ISPmanager prompts you to confirm passwords in the User settings field.
  4. Click Save.

Authorization With Enabled Two-factor Authentication for Users 

After you have enabled the 2-step authentication for ISPmanager user, complete the login form:

  1. Enter your Login and Password.
  2. Click Log in.
  3. Run Google Authenticator in your mobile device.
  4. Enter the One-time password from the application.
  5. Click Save.
