Configuring VPN L2TP/IPsec Connection for MacOS

This article will help you learn how to install and configure VPN L2TP/IPsec Connection on MacOS.

To configure PN L2TP/IPsec Connection on your MacOS device, follow the steps:

  1. Open System Settings....

  2. Go to the Network section.

  3. To add a new VPN connection, go to the Other Services field. 
  4. Click Add VPN Configuration > L2TP over IPSec….

  5. In the opened window, enter the VPN connection parameters :
    1. Interface – VPN.
    2. Connection Type – L2TP.
    3. Display Name – any of your choice, for example, "Ishosting".
    4. Server address – the IP address of the VPN server.
    5. Account name – PPTP/L2TP username from the message that you received by email when the service is activated.
    6. Password – PPTP/L2TP password.
    7. Shared Secret – ipsec shared PSK.
  6. Click Create.

  7. Enter the VPN connection parameters from the message that you received by email when the service is activated:

  8. You can also find PPTP/L2TP access information in your client area.
    1. In your client area, find the VPN Servers tab.
    2. Click Manage.

    3. In the Access section, find the PPTP/L2TP settings.

  9. VPN connection successfully configured.

  10. To connect, slide the switch to the right.

  11. If the connection is successful, the Connected status appears and you can track VPN usage statistics. 
  12. To see the connection status with the VPN server in the macOS top menu, check the Show VPN status in menu bar box.
