How to Choose and Setup a VPS Plan?
This article explains how to choose and configure a VPS plan.
You can change your plan within the selected plan line and transfer your VPS and your projects (data) to another location later during the server rental process. However, this will require time and money (data transfer between locations is a paid service), so we strongly recommend carefully selecting a plan that meets all your requirements when ordering your VPS.
Upgrading your plan within the selected plan line at your current location, or adding individual resources (processor cores, RAM, disk space), requires only one server reboot. Reducing disk space, for example, when downgrading your plan, requires a temporary server shutdown (the server/sites will be unavailable for a couple of hours to several hours during the upgrade).
Additionally, you can add resources to your plan, but you cannot reduce the number of resources below the current plan to make it cheaper. Setting up a VPS server.
1. SELECT A GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
Choose a server location as close as possible to your project's end users. This will ensure the highest access speed. If you have any doubts about the suitability of hosting content or a website in your chosen location, you can request clarification via our online chat in the lower-right corner of the screen or contact support via the ticket system. We offer VPS hosted on servers in the following countries:
- Europe: Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, UK, Finland, etc.
- North America: USA, Canada, Mexico.
- South America: Brazil, Argentina, etc.
- Asia: Japan, Singapore, UAE, etc.
- Australia.
You can find a full list of available countries on the Data Centers page. We also recommend considering your network parameters when choosing a location. You can check your network parameters using our Looking Glass service.
2. SELECT AN OPERATING SYSTEM TYPE
We offer virtual servers running Linux, Windows, and macOS in various versions. Each user chooses an OS type based on their preferences, requirements, and administration capabilities.
3. SELECT A TARIFF PLAN
We offer the following standard pricing plans (price parameters may vary by location; you can find a complete, up-to-date list of plans here).
All VPS hosting servers are connected to 1 Gbps ports, which are shared among all VPSs on the host server. Be sure to consider the recommended average/constant bandwidth load for the VPS, based on the selected pricing plan and location.
4. SELECT AN OS TEMPLATE
Choose the operating system version that best suits your needs. Please note the server control panels' compatibility with various Linux OS versions. You can specify the desired OS/control panel version in the order comments if it's not listed, and we will contact you via the ticket system if further details are needed. We also offer paid OS installation from a client's ISO file (please provide a direct link to the ISO file in the order comments).
5. CHOOSE A CONTROL PANEL (FOR LINUX OS)
For convenient VPS use and 24/7 free administration as part of your Regulations on Server Administration, you can order the installation of one of the following control panels:
Adding or changing a control panel after OS installation requires reinstalling the OS (deleting all data on it!). Therefore, we strongly recommend choosing a control panel when ordering your server.
6. CHOOSE YOUR ADMINISTRATION TYPE
We offer two types of administration: standard (free with all VPS plans when ordering any control panel) and VIP administration. You can learn more about the rules and differences between the administration types here.
To enable any type of administration, you must order the installation of the ispmanager/DirectAdmin/HestiaCP/CPanel, FastPanel, or aaPanel control panel. You can also opt out of administration by selecting the "No Administration" option, including when ordering the control panel, if you plan to administer the server yourself.
7. CHOOSE YOUR BACKUP TYPE
By default, all users receive a free weekly backup service. You can also order a paid daily backup service.
You can read more about VPS backups here.
8. ORDER ADDITIONAL IPs
Specify the required number of additional IPv4s in addition to the primary IPv4 we provide with each VPS. You can also specify the required number of IPv6s, as well as the IPv4/IPv6 subnet and any other preferences in the "Order Notes" field.
9. CHOOSE A PAYMENT PERIOD
Select a VPS payment period: 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year. A discount is available based on the selected payment period.
10. SUBMIT A NOTE TO YOUR ORDER
If necessary, specify additional server setup requirements, an SSH key (Public key) for authorization, and any other comments regarding order activation for managers/technical specialists.
If you have any questions or require clarification regarding the selection of specific VPS options and parameters, please contact the online chat in the lower right corner of the screen or create a support ticket (Billing Department).
